What AI assistants say about your brand, and how to check

Many clients now ask assistants such as ChatGPT, Gemini and Perplexity for recommendations before they search. Here is a simple way to see what those assistants say about you, and what to do next.

Why it matters

An AI answer is a short paragraph that sounds certain. It may name three hotels, two brokers or one developer, with a sentence about each. If you are missing, or described with last year’s facts, the client rarely checks further.

These answers draw on what the model learned in training and, increasingly, on live sources: your website and what others publish about you, from listings and press to reviews and partner pages. You cannot write the answer, but you can improve what it is built from.

A one-hour test

  1. Write down ten questions your clients ask before they choose. Use their words: a quiet hotel near Monaco with a pool, who manages charter for a forty-metre yacht, new residences near Antibes.
  2. Ask each question in ChatGPT, Gemini, Perplexity, Microsoft Copilot and Google’s AI answers. Use a private window and, where it matters, the language of the market.
  3. Record three things for each answer: whether you appear, how you are described and which sources are cited.
  4. Mark anything wrong: an old name, a closed restaurant, the wrong number of rooms, a competitor’s description attached to you.

What usually needs fixing

  • Facts on your own site that are vague, or hidden in images and PDFs. Write them plainly, on the page.
  • Inconsistent descriptions across listings, partner sites and social profiles. Choose one and use it everywhere.
  • Missing structured data, the code that tells machines what you are, where you are and what you offer.
  • Thin third-party coverage. Assistants lean on independent sources. An accurate directory listing or a well-placed article can matter more than a new page on your own site.

Repeat it every quarter

Answers change as models and sources change. Run the same questions every three months and keep the results side by side. It is the simplest way to see whether the work is moving the description in the right direction.
